VOYAGES
Travel Program Terms and Conditions

VOYAGES Student Travel is designed for students currently enrolled in high school or recent graduates, who are interested in engaging as supportive members of a group experiential education and outdoor adventure experience. It is important to understand that this is a group experience. Our common goal is to ensure a comfortable and rewarding experience for each participant. Participants need to be respectful of the needs of others and always strive to be supportive of the best interests of the group. Further, in addition to the daily adventures, each Student is encouraged to participate in lessons, discussions and journaling that are an important part of the program.

Student participants will have the opportunity to engage in a number of recreational activities. These activities may include, but are not limited to, swimming in the open ocean, snorkeling in the open ocean, swimming in a pool, hiking near the Pacific coast with pounding surf, hiking along uneven and sometimes sharp lava flows, walking at an elevation approaching 14,000 feet, boating in the ocean, and other activities typically associated with travel in Hawaii. Caution must be exercised at all times and the Student should be alert to potential hazards and take measures to minimize risk, including frequent application of sunscreen to avoid sunburn. Participating Student agrees to follow the safety guidelines and instructions of the program staff.

Student and parents are responsible for all medical expenses resulting from possible illness or injury incurred during the Hawaii Program.  Student/parents further assume responsibility for making arrangements for the Student to return home in the event that illness or injury to the Student requires isolation or separation from the group for more than 2 days.  No rebates or deductions will be made for entering late or leaving early for any reason.

Neither parents nor Student participant will make any misrepresentations as to the Student’s ability with respect to any Hawaii Program Activities.  Participation implies a clear understanding of the extreme adventure-based nature of the Hawaii program activities, including frequent hikes and ocean excursions.  The Student agrees to be in good physical condition upon arrival and agrees to be a positive and helpful member of the group.

It is our policy that neither tobacco, marijuana and its derivatives, alcohol, nor drugs will be brought to or used in connection with any VOYAGES programs. Participant agrees to refrain from the use of alcohol or drugs throughout the duration of the program. Drugs brought for medical reasons should be in their original prescribed container with clear dosage instructions. The Student will be responsible for administering her/his own medications as necessary.  Over the counter medications such as Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Sudafed, Benadryl, Di-Gel are also permissible.

Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements into Kona International Airport where they will be met by program staff. Transportation will be provided to all on-island activities. Each Student is fully responsible for the loss, damage or theft of his/her personal property.

In order to ensure congenial traveling companions, VOYAGES reserves the right to accept or reject any person as a travel program participant, and to expel from the travel program any participant whose conduct is deemed incompatible with the interest and safety of the travel program group. Any behavior deemed inappropriate or destructive to the overall well being of the group or to individual members of the group will not be tolerated and may be cause for dismissal from the program.
